Statement of Senator Roger A. Madigan Regarding Gov. Rendell’s Release of Proposed Terms and Conditions for the Lease of the Pennsylvania Turnpike

Harrisburg – Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Roger A. Madigan (R-23) issued the following statement today regarding Gov. Rendell’s release of proposed terms and conditions for the lease of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:

"I appreciate the Governor’s decision to release some of the details of his proposal to lease the Pennsylvania Turnpike as I had requested of him in a letter dated February 28, 2008.

"I believe the Citizens of the Commonwealth will be best served by being provided with not only the information about the winning bidder but also the other submitted proposals.

"The most obvious concern I have about the information provided by the Governor is the June 10th deadline for consideration.  I think that is an extremely ambitious timeline given weight of the work involved in the budget and the other outstanding issues facing the General Assembly.

"The complexity of this issue and the extremely limited amount of information that has been flowing to the public and the General Assembly creates a very steep learning curve for everyone outside of the Administration in dealing with a significant public policy decision."
